JAHNKOY - PUMA

NY FASHION SHOW FW 2017

We worked on a Jahnkoy’s first show on January 2017, that combined a unique set made from construction materials borrowed from the streets, traffic cones, barriers, etc., with many models, dancers and performers. There was a street performer who recited poetry and played the flute, a drummer on plastic buckets, a violinist and an original soundtrack that consisted of ancient tribal drumming and chants in Native American languages and Eastern European languages. The soundtrack also included some spoken words from the likes of Bob Marley and Fela Kuti.

It was a dynamic way to show couture streetwear.

BERGDORF GOODMAN JULY 2017

In July 2017, Jahnkoy was invited to do a capsule collection for the iconic Bergdorf Goodman Men’s store. For the launch party, we produced a “happening”, the likes of which had not been seen before in that store. We had a live Kora player (African Guitar from Gambia) with Jahnkoy speaking and sewing in front of guests, with many models from that first show, dressed in Jahnkoy’s unique pieces. We also created a long soundscape with the aforementioned sounds. It was an exceptional experience for both store associates and customers.

NY FASHION SHOW JULY 2018

In the summer of 2018, we continued the narrative of Jahnkoy a little further with a dance performance in 3 acts to showcase her new collection. We worked with the amazing choreographer Nathan Trice who is known to create very emotional organic movements with the human body. There were numerous rehearsals needed for a show with 56 dancers, and we continued to flesh out at each rehearsal, different performative ways to share her vision within a tight run-of-show.

This type of show had never been done before, where there was a wide array of street wear combined with new versions of traditional clothing, dynamic movements, along with music and sounds that referenced the old and the new, all part of a new vision of the clothing we wear. The audience was excited and mesmerized; pictures and videos cannot adequately show how the audience was moved by this live experience.

MOSCOW FASHION SHOW

The day after, we flew with the designer and her team to Moscow, to work on the exact same show, but this time with 90 dancers, on the grounds of the Museum of Decorative Arts.

NY FASHION SHOW SEPTEMBER 2019

In the fall of 2019, we produced a performative dance fashion show on a constructed tiered stage, in FIT’s Fred P. Pomerantz Art and Design Center lobby. This was the most daring theatrical production for Jahnkoy ~ we artistically directed and produced the entire show, from casting dancers and performers, to rehearsals, to technical production and direction that complemented the aesthetics for the show.

The performance featured some of the best dancers in various categories and was a powerful tool to showcase the richness of the old and the new, in a setting that referenced a neighborhood in Brooklyn.

Jahnkoy has gone on to have her own creative space and store in Brooklyn where she has created her own universe. Her passion for ancient crafting techniques continues. So does our passion for finding new and extraordinary ways of bringing a vision to life.
